The Power of the Actor is basically a modern, formulaic rewriting of Stanislavki (and Strausberg, with a little bit of Uta Hagen). It tells you how to act scenes by creating 'substitutions' that will help you generate realistic emotion onstage. I enjoyed some of the 'recipes' for creating different physical states (such as drunkeness or a heroin high) but I felt that there was a lot of pressure put on the 'end results' and how things 'should be done'.
