Read back in 50's. Very racy to my young mind so much so that it has remained in my memory all this time.

Recommended for those with no prior background as to the The Mexican - American War. The author has a concise, straightforward writing style, and provides just enough information so that the reader can appreciate the general outline of the war without getting lost in details. I particularly enjoyed the insights provided into the major personalities of the war, including Winfield Scott, Zachary Taylor and Santa Ana.

A good condensed version of the early battles of New York and New Jersey. I would recommend reading Chidsey's work first then reading David Hackett Fisher's "Washingtons's Crossing" for much more detail on the same events. Then for fun, read Newt Gingrich's "To Try Men's Souls" . Here you will get an image of what the participants may have though, felt and experienced.

General account of the AWI in the South - very nice overview, with little depth with regards to any part.
