I could never really warm up to the hero. I mean he has a sort-of affair with a horrible woman then wants to marry her cousin(the heroine)and transform her into the new belle of society.

I couldnt really believe he got over his feelings for the heroines cousin that fast when only a day earlier wanted to elope with said cousin.
And then wanting to get revenge. That implies he did have some feelings left for her.

The cousin was quite awful in fact.In a"Oh fiddlesticks! My cousin vanished while doing an errand for me.She was probably murdered and thrown in the river...Ooh look a new bonnet"-way

I think the heroine should have given her more grief about her behavior towards her and also the fact that she treated her daughter and husband so badly.

Maybe its more realistic but I want to see the villains/bad persons get whats coming to them in historical romances.

An ok read but I am afraid I cant recommend it.

The plot wasn't bad, but the romance got short shrift - the only reason I had to think that the hero and heroine were in love was because I was told it.
