Excellent. I absolutely love how he ties every aspect of this book in with supporting songs/hymns. We don't realize the magnitude of the sacrifice and its all encompassing nature and this book really makes you appreciate it. The multitude of lyrics from old-school hymns used to reinforce points was very refreshing. Also, tying things up at the end with the importance of music in the atonement process very intriguing.

Wish he would've spent less time on the predestination aspect, but it wasn't overwhelming so didn't lower it to a four star review.… (más)

This was very well written and interesting. I am not religious by any stretch of the imagination, but one cannot help but find these writers and their stories compelling. Very readable and uplifting.

What the reader has in Glory Road is what the sub-title claims to give you. You get the journeys that these men took to becoming Reformed theologians. There is no secret to the content of the book. It was an interesting read because what you find is that there were common threads that led these men to a church that at least had some sort of a substance and history to their theology.

As a Lutheran, I can not agree with the decisions that these men made winding up in Reformed Christianity. Fundamental beliefs between Lutherans and the Reformed aside the things that these men have written about are valuable for us to understand when taking into account what the religious culture of the United States is like today. Specifically, in this case, among African Americans. There is a real lack in theology. All churches that base their confession on substantive theology can learn from this book. I am sure that if you were to look across racial and denominational lines you would find many of the same stories.

If you are interested in what it is that people are starting to realize about much of American Christianity this book can give you some good insight. People want real substance in the church. Although, if you do read the book please don’t assume the Reformed are the only church you can turn to in order to find substance.

Just to note I did give this work 5 stars because it accomplished what it set out to do. There are 10 stories of men and their journeys to Reformed Christianity. The question portion, as another reviewer mentioned, was also a nice touch; though I would not recommend any of the works that they do instead read some Luther.

This is a set of true stories of ten men from the African American culture. Describing each man's travels into a conviction of the Christian God's sovereignty over all things, and their understanding of His grace and justice even in that sovereignty in the midst of trials. The telling is not dynamic and persuasive as much as it is plain and deep, even in the all-too-brief vinettes.

A more lengthy tale from two or three of the men might have been a better read. As it was, it was difficult to keep the men's lives distinct in my mind. Still, a recommended read.

I think I would have given it three stars, but for the clear, concise description of the reformed theology I love. Thus, the four stars.
