"My Wild Rose" by Deborah Camp

My Sentiment:

'My Wild Rose' is an excellent historical romance that will keep your attention as you turn the pages to see what is coming next in this story that involves how and why this particular woman was trying to get liberation from saloons. This initially was something to read about in how well this author tells this story. The story is brought out in the storyline with some fascinating characters, with the two leading ones being Regina Augusta Ross and Theodore Dane. After all that was happening there in Eureka Springs, will Regina finally find the love she wants after all she has been through? What had happened to Regina growing up with her mother and her brother? Will Theo be the one who will be able to give Regina [his 'Wild Rose] what she needs after all is said and done? To get these questions answered and more as we read about how Mz. Carry Nation fought against alcoholism, and all she was up against in this fight she headed up in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

My Sentiments:

'Primrose' was a good story that featured Grandy and Zanna. Zanna hadn't had a good life, especially after her father's death and dealing with those horrid villains. The report will keep one drawn in with fascinating characters and conflicts that will keep one turning the pages. Pick up this read to see how the heroine, In the end, will Zanna, finally get the love she so needs in her life.

My Sentiments:

Alexander Grant had been given no choice in what his dad had planned for his son, which was to get him married so he could take over as CEO of the family business. However, after several times Alexander had problems with certain ladies to match, he decided to put a plan that would work for him, but will it work out for Alexander and Olivia Barnes [the lady Alexander had chosen]? There will be many twists and turns in this story, so you will have to keep up with the story to see what happens, as Alexander's relative will help cause many problems in this whole situation.

Again, will this work out for Alexander and Olivia? Will Alexander get his chosen one? You must pick up this good romantic HEA read to see how well it all comes out.

Trudy Tucker and Levi Wolfe are enjoying married life until a series of accidental deaths draws them to the funeral of a friend in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. At the same time, Trudy begins to have visions of the killer while the killing takes place. Levi is dealing with many issues including the risk of losing Trudy. He fears for her life when he realizes that she has been in the mind of the killer, but Trudy can't deny what she has been seeing which puts both her and Levi into the hunt for the killer.

Through Her Touch is the fifth book in the Mind's Eye series. The previous four books were based on both the mystery and the romance between Trudy and Levi, but now that they are married, some of the angst and tension is no longer present and has been replaced with the ongoing mental issues that Levi has been avoiding in previous books. The mystery is still interesting, however the culprit is fairly predictable. Overall, Through Her Touch is an enjoyable psychic mystery but lacks some of the emotion in the preceding books in the series.

My Opinion:

'Courting Mr. Cutthroat' was another excellent series by this author featuring Cutter Forsyth and Gemma Summerhill. Since high school, these two had known each other when Gemma used to Tudor him; also, she had a crush on him. Those were the old days because Cutter had left his Georgia hometown, but now he was back due to the fact he had 'created a special sculpture to honor the Cherokee.' With Cutter having no thoughts of staying in Georgia after this presentation has been made and Gemma's having no interest in living anywhere else, what will happen as there seems to be something going on between these two? Especially with Gemma believing that 'home is where love can grow and with Cutter feeling no bounds for any of it.' What will happen that will change for these two? To find out what all is going on, the reader will have to pick up this good contemporary romance and see where this author takes the reader.

Through His Touch is the second book in the Mind's Eye series. Trudy and Levi have decided to try a long distance relationship, but when Trudy shows up at Levi's apartment on his birthday, both are thrilled to be together again. Their happiness is short-lived however when a stalker claiming to be Trudy invades Levi's home and one of Levi's former lovers is killed.
This book is more about Trudy and Levi's romance than it is about psychic powers or solving a mystery. It reminded me of Fifty Shades of Gray except without the kink. We do find out more about Levi's past which seems to get darker and darker with each revelation. While I do enjoy reading about Levi's past, I'm hoping the next book in the series has a little more psychic mystery in it as well as more of Trudy. Next up is Through His Heart.

Through His Heart is the third book in the Mind's Eye series. In this story, Levi's step-sister, Rachel has been kidnapped, but he is reluctant to join in the search for her. Trudy has no such reluctance because Rachel has been sending her psychic messages. When the two travel to Levi's childhood home in Missouri, Trudy discovers that Levi has many more secrets about his past that he still hasn't shared with her, but her attention is divided. Rachel needs her help, but then, so does Levi.
Even though much of this story still features Levi and his past as the last book did, Trudy is definitely the protagonist as her psychic ability continues to broaden. We see Trudy's confidence growing, putting her center stage in this book. I liked that this book featured Trudy's family and their reactions to Levi as well as his family's reactions to Trudy. I'm looking forward to the fourth book in the series, Through Her Eyes.

Through Her Eyes is the fourth book in the MInd's Eye series. Trudy and Levi are in New Orleans trying to sort out a serial killer case. Some of his victims were found floating in the water after a recent flood. The prime suspect is a man in a wheelchair, and even though the detectives in the case are sure it was him, there isn't enough proof to arrest him. They really become stumped when similar killings start to occur that could not possibly have been committed by someone in a wheelchair. Could he have taken on a partner? And if so, who could it be?
There really isn't too much mystery in this book. From the beginning, it is pretty clear who is involved, but Trudy and Levi do use their psychic abilities to help the police in their search for a killer. Again much of this book is devoted to the relationship between Trudy and Levi as they are now engaged and trying to decide when to get married. I enjoyed this book, but would have liked a little more mystery. The ambience of New Orleans is clear in the descriptions of the locations in the book, and this added to the overall enjoyment of the story. Overall, a pretty good read. Also, I read in her "Dear Reader" section, that Deborah Camp is planning on writing two more books in the Mind's Eye series. I look forward to reading them when they become available.

Through His Eyes is the first book in the Mind's Eye series. Trudy Tucker and Levi Wolfe are both psychics with different skills that are using their gifts to help the police solve murder cases. Through His Eyes details their first case together. Working in the Florida Keys, Trudy uses her ability to see through the killer's eyes while Levi is able to commune with the spirits of the women that have been killed by touching an item that they owned. As the two work the case, they also consummate their deep attraction to one another, but Trudy can see that Levi is holding back when talking about his past, and she wonders if this self-professed ladies man will ever be willing to settle just for her.
I enjoyed this first book in the series. Levi was hard to like at the beginning of the book, but as we learn along with Trudy more about his past, his motives and behavior become easier to understand. Trudy is a mostly open book, but that makes her a very likable character. The mystery had a good twist to it that made it enjoyable right to the end of the book. However, the ending was a little confusing. Deborah Camp indicated in her "Dear Reader" section that we should trust that the next book in the series will clear up the end of this book. I'm looking forward to reading more about these interesting characters in Through His Eyes.

"Nailing Mr. Nasty" by Deborah Camp

My Opinion:

'Nailing Mr. Nasty' was quite a sweet romantic read that will keep the reader turning the pages to see what is coming next for Samantha [Sam] Striker and Jack Nast. I enjoyed how well this author puts the story together in just why was Jack called 'Mr. Nasty' in the first place. What will happen when these two meet with Sam being an employee of Jack. I will say it was quite a meeting with Sam being a little more than what Jack thought. Now, why was that? Sam is working for contractor Jack Nast during the time for her best friends during her maternity leave.

So, how did Jack get this name of being called 'Mr. Nasty?' What will all go on between these two as Sam works as Jack's office manager? What will happen as these two seem to have some funny bartering going on, and oh, I don't want to leave out the hot chemistry that these two seem to have toward each other. I will stop here and say you must pick up this good read, 'Nailing Mr. Nasty,' to see how this author answers all the questions above, giving the readers a well-written story that will keep you turning the pages.

I will say that this story involved a subject that I found somewhat sad about how the story was processed with the way the story all turned out. However, at least Jack could get the help he needed to move forward in his family situation.

My Speculation:

I enjoyed "Bedding Mr. Birsong" that featured Zaney Miller and Matthew Birdsong. I loved how these two people were brought together in this story in a humorous sort of way. After Zaney finds out that Matt is her neighbor, what will she do to meet him? With Matt thinking he could get any woman he wanted but was stopped when it didn't go his way with meeting Zaney. She was not having it even though she had feelings for Matt, but knowing that he needed to see himself in a different light. Matt went off the chart toward women after his divorce from Carin. What will happen when Matthew finally begins to see what had gone wrong in his life with help from Zaney? How far will these two take their friendship? I liked most of the characters [Zaney, Matt, Lonnie, Seth, Foster, Frito Pie{the Dog}, Vivian & Gary] from this story that brought on some intense moments but yet good ones that will hold one's attention, bringing in some happy moments in this story. By the end of this story, will Zaney and Matt get their HEA? Well, this is where I say you will have to pick up this well-written read to see how well this author will bring it all out to the reader.

If you are looking for a sweet romantic story, I would recommend "Bedding Mr. Birdsong" to you like a good read.

"Ropin' the Moon" by Deborah Camp

My Rationalization:

This was quite a western historical fiction romance story that featured Dalton Moon and Lacey Tyrell. We find Dalton had come to this town as town Marshall to get it back on the right track after it had been run over by some ruthless that bullied people mainly the Pullman's and his crew. The previous deputy sheriff [Lacy's uncle] had failed at this job so now Dalton was now there to clean up the town from all the riffraff that was going on. What will happen when Dalton first sees Lacey as he is riding into this historic Old West town of Far Creek on his trusty steed, Solder and finds out that Lacey is not only beautiful but spirited and not afraid to let one know her opinion? What will happen as there seems to be a conflict between the ranchers and the railroad? How will this conflict come out in the end with a story with plenty of suspense, murder, beatings, shootings, and adventure along with a touch of romance with feelings that will spark between the two Dalton and Lacey? I will say I didn't care much for the heroine at first but she did warm up somewhat at the end. Now, for Lacy's uncle Otis I still didn't care much for him and his girlfriend. For most of the story, I did find most of the characters convincing and engaging which did help give the reader an entertaining read. To get all of these questions answered to this well-written story with 'drama, lots of action, love,' and so much more you will have to pick up "Ropin' the Moon' to see how everything comes out.

My Thoughts....

This was another one of this author's Book 6 of the 'Minds's Eye' series that definitely puts the icing on the cake for Levi and Trudy Wolfe. They were helping solve this case for Stuart after his parents were killed by a vicious man. I definitely don't think that this person who did this horrible act was aware of who were all on his case [the Wolfe's] that were working to bring him in and in the end that is just what happened.

With Trudy and Levi now wanting to start a family it seems so right for them to want to be a foster parent to Stuart after they had met him. It seemed like Trudy may have been more excited about it than Levi but soon he did fall in line with this idea and later on they realized the adoption of Stuart would be a plus for them to have him in their family. I loved how Stuart chose the name for them Trudy and Levi] as Mom and Pop and how well he took to them was so special. The characters were all on mark in this mystery story being very developed, defined and yes oh so believable giving this read one that will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming next. One thing for sure Levi Wolfe loves his Trudy! I loved the ending when the story all comes together with them celebrating Thanksgiving where all the family were their truly having a beautiful family memory at the Wolfe's new home [with Levi, Trudy, Stuart, the little new one, with family and friends]. Sorry that this series is the end. Hopefully the Wolfe's will come back to us in some other form or fashion. And I am sure other readers will agree!

"Fire Lily" by Deborah Camp

My Thoughts...

"Fire Lily" was indeed quite a fascinating read where Lily Jane Meeker and Griffon Golforth come together and with their psychic powers are able to find Cecille Meeker who was a cousin of Lily. What will happen when Lily finds out that she has the ability to read ones mind and share her dreams? Also with her 'Tactile Memory Lily was able to touch things and sense things about them.' Why did it seem to be a problem for her to admit she had this psychic powers to be able to do this? What had happened earlier in her life where Lily seem to want to shut it all out about her memory? Who was Griffon Golforth who was of the American Society of Psychic Research and seemed to be able to figure out Lily powers so very well? Why had he been hired by this family?

This was really a intriguing story in how this author puts this story all together in this historical romantic read that will bring out the 'sexy, mysterious and dangerous' side of this well written read with the main area being focused around Boston, Fort Smith and Van Buren.

What will happen as Lily is drawn to Griffon as her 'girlhood dream was that of marrying a dashing, romantic Gypsy?' Will her dream come true? Well, this is one of those novels that you will just have to pick up and read for yourself to see just who was Griffon Golforth and just why had he been hired to find Cecille? The characters in this read were simply off the chain...well developed, portrayed and believable giving the reader one heck of a good story. The characters from Lilly, Griffon, Uncle Howard, Aunt Nan, Angela & Edward Meeker, Orrie, Cecille, Balthazar [Zar], Sheriff Mac, Thurman Unger, Ham, Anson, Jasper, Eva, Butch Jefferses to a few others really presented the reader with some engaging thoughts that will keep you turning the pages to see what was coming next. Yes, there were some good and bad ones characters to along with some prejudices too!

By the end will their be a HEA for Lily and Griffon? You will just have to pick up this good read to see.

This was quite a endearing story that will help your interest turning the pages to see what was going on with Gussie Horton who had found herself in a horrible situation. No what was that? Well, it seems like a [Bob Babbitt] was not been there to receive her in Ft Smith and now she has make her way to Pear Orchard, Arkansas to learn he [Babbitt] was was in the Van Buren jail for disorderly conduct where he had "Drank too much and tore up a saloon." What was somewhat interesting about this whole situation was that Gussie was a 'mail-order letter bride' who hadn't formally met only having a agreement to this marriage. Now, what will Gussie do? Well, she gets help from the

a sweet family the Karlsson's...Susan...her husband Erick and her half brother Max Lonestar. What proposal will be made to Gussie from Max that she will not be able to refuse? The author will present the reader will one interesting story of just how hard it was for Max and Gussie especially since he was a 'half-breed.' It was intriguing to see how this town treated Max and how it took Gussie to bring it out up front and center to how these town people really were a group of very self righteous people. It seems like when all was going well for these two something would always seem to happen. Why and who were those particular people? Now to fully understand this well written read you will have to pick up "Lonestar's Lady' to see for yourself how well this story whole situation is all brought out. I did have a few questions in how the ending ended but I was able to live with my thoughts on how I hoped it would all did come out in the end. The two main characters...Levi and Trudy were some very interesting individuals with all of their passion and yet being their for each other as they worked on this new a psychic mystery as this case will hit home for Levi as his past will come back to haunt him in this well written storyline. This author really works her magic as Levi and Trudy do a amazing job as they solve this suspenseful emotional ride as Trudy gets a SOS from a missing child who just happens to be Levi's stepsister [whom Levi has never met]. I indeed enjoyed the smoothness that this author paced her story....along with the hot steamy sex scenes....as the reader will see how devoted this couple were to each other as they deepen their relationship.

I loved this excerpt of how Truly really felt about Levi.......to me this says it all!

"You make me feel pretty and sexy and you love me as I am. You give me the courage to explore my abilities. You know how scared you were of Becky? Well, most of my life, I've been that scared about being psychic. It's always made me feel out of control and just shy of being insane. Quintara helped me gain some control over it, but you've shown me how to live with it, how to be at peace with it. Believe me, what we have is a symbiotic relationship."

Be ready for a suspenseful thriller ride as the reader will find out more about Levi's past, Trudy's working her psychic powers, their physical chemistry, kidnappers, their families, threats and twist and turns that will keep you turning the pages to get all of this good read.

"Through His Heart" can be read as a standalone, however, I would suggest you get the other two series and read them altogether giving you a much better understanding of these two characters. So, if you like reading about the psychic phenomena with a lots of suspense with two sexy detectives then you will enjoy reading "Through His Heart." Will this be the last of the Mind's Eye series?... I guess we will just have to wait and see.

To the author...Thank you for such a awesome well written Mind's Eye series!

Let me start by saying that though I read a pretty fair amount of historical romance, I have never been particularly attracted to the Indian/White Woman thing. I get too wrapped up in the backstory, and always find it hard to suspend disbelief that in a society where Native Americans were stripped of their lands and dehumanized by European Americans and European Americans were taught to live in fear of Native Americans, real uncomplicated love could blossom. This book did a pretty darn good job of getting me past that issue. The heroine is smart and has skills that are valued by the Blackfeet and not taken seriously but the White townspeople because she is a woman. The hero is conflicted about Whites and persecuted by the townspeople who attack everything/everyone he loves. There is discussion of the mistreatment of the Blackfeet, and the heroine is asked, why would you want to go to them, not because the Blackfeet are bad, but because you know you will be victimized by the government and driven to unproductive land where you will be left to starve. Bottom line: I did not have to suspend disbelief because my questions were addressed. The hero and heroine are really good well drawn characters as are most of the supporting characters. (The villains are cardboard cutouts, but it turned out to not be too annoying.) Overall, a good read

Review:

"To Seduce and Defend" by Deborah Camp was very good historical romance that was read from the start to the finished. I could not put this one down until the end. This author did a wonderful job at letting the reader understand just want was going on in the late 1800's in the Indian Territory in Guthrie, Oklahoma where it was a 'mecca place to be for one seeking a divorce.'

Jennie Caldwell Hastings and her son, Oliver arrive in Guthrie, Oklahoma to "claim the land purchased by her deceased husband." Unbeknown to her is that her husband had divorced her an remarried someone else who know claimed the land. After meeting with Zach Warner, the lawyer and finding out what her deceased husband has done...what will she do now? Jenna was the type of woman that would not cave in...for she took charge...finding herself and son a place to say and a job. This will be where I will say you have to pick up this read to find out the rest of the story. This author will lead the reader into some twist and turns that will lead to who was responsible for all that had happened. It seems like there will be a love interest between Jennie and Zach but what will come of it if he is not the marrying kind? What will come out and break this case? Will Jennie and Oliver get the land that she had paid for in the end? Again, from this well written novel: "To Seduce and Defend" you will get it all from this good read and YES! I would recommend this read to you. Well done to the author.

Review:

"Cheyenne's Shadow" by Deborah Camp was a very good read that kept you interested. This was one beautiful story told and with such wonderful fantastic characters. This is my first novel by this author and I am sure it will not be the last. I really enjoyed the mystery and twist that were all over this story featuring Etta Hollister and Johnny Cheyenne. You can tell there was some good research done by this author to give us a wonderful well written story. The descriptions of the area characters were very well developed, so real and alive...making you feel like you are their in the story. Here are a few that made this read a good read....Etta owner of the Flying H Ranch, Johnny Cheyenne, Whitey, Hank,Andy, Brickman, Dan and Hester Pitch, Gerald Powell, Roy's father; Clarence Allred, the owner of the general store, Jessup, the Blacksmith, Lester Craw, the sheriff, Big Joe Simpson, the cattle broker, to Barney Timmons, a man who used to work for Brickman...to name a few...all made this read a captivating read. Even though I found "Cheyenne's Shadow" was somewhat predictable it was still a good read. In the end will Etta finally listen to Johnny.. and what does he has to say to her? What about this partnership? Now, this is the time I will say you must pick up this good read to see how Ms. Camp delivers it all to the reader. Be ready for a interesting ending that will indeed bring it all together.
