Biografía breve
From UK's Amazon.com:
Eileen was born in the Highland capital and lived in Inverness most of her life, apart from a few years spent in her husband's native Louisiana. They returned in 1985 to set up their security business, from which they are now very happily retired.
In a style reminiscent of Maeve Binchy she began writing as a hobby, and her first novel 'The Company of Strangers' was published soon after, reaching number 3 in the Scottish bestseller list and remaining in the top ten for over three months.
She has also contributed a humorous monthly column to The Sunday Post magazine, and has served on the committee of The Society of Authors in Scotand. Her novels have been translated into German, Dutch and French.

A young girl is sent away from home to stay with her grandmother while her mother recovers from a depression. In the village of her grandmother she decides to start looking for her grandfather - her grandmother was never married, raised her child on her own and nobody seems to know for certain who the father is.

An enjoyable read with nice characters - I especially loved the grandmother, a strong independent woman who can be rude and difficult, but is also a very loving person. The villagers are quite an interesting bunch, each with his/her own history and problems, and it's nice getting to know them.
I did find the plot a bit too easy though. Once Ellie starts looking for her grandfather pretty much everything goes her way - she finds his address the moment she arrives in the village, then meets a man who just happens to be from the same city and who finds her grandfather straight away. There is no real problems she needs to overcome, which makes the novel a bit simple.
Not a bad read, but definitely not a novel I'd like to keep or reread in the future.

Ellie's mother becomes ill, so she's sent to live with her bohemian grandmother, even though she has never met her before.

She gets to know people in the village, and learns a lot about life.

Pleasant and interesting, although not particularly exciting.
