DI Blake and his trusty sidekick DS Murphy arrest a joyrider on a seemingly normal day in the Potteries. What Tom Blake didn’t know was this was the trigger for a roller coaster series of events involving kidnapping, robbery, ancient artifacts and murder.

Don’t be put off by the odd title of this one, it is an extremely well written and perfectly paced police procedural thriller.

The story blurs the lines between what is deemed acceptable behaviour when the police are attempting to track down a killer and the local organised crime family are putting pressure on the lead detective. It asks the question, what would you do to save your daughter’s life?

The investigation procedural parts of the book are tightly written and entertaining. The central characters are all given their time in the spotlight. The background information and side stories add to the overall enjoyment.

As in real life not all police cases are tied up completely with a bow at the end but you’ll need to read the book to discover the outcome of the investigations.

DI Blake is a decent copper but is shown to have his flaws, not least his commitment to his remaining family.

The main antagonist is also well drawn and despite his criminal behaviour it is difficult not to like him on some level

D.I. Tom Blake and his team investigate when the remains of a body are discovered. examination reveals the man has been dead for 42 years. In the same year several young girls and another man also went missing. What is the connection to these circumstances, who is involved.
An enjoyable crime story
