You can hear my thoughts on episode 20 of Cocktail Hour (cocktailhour.c-spot.net)

I read the online version, not the published version.

I just happened to pick this up not knowing it was set in Australia with a Greek and German background. Eva and Zoe are two women who should not have gotten together. But they did, and they have to deal with both their history and world history. The story unfolded with enough flashback to bring the reader up to date even if they had not read the previous books. (I, for one, am going to go back and get the beginning of the series.). Greek girl in occupied Greece and German girl with Nazi commander as step father. But the attraction was there and it worked.… (más)

Wow. The story again started with a bit of background about what has happened over the past five books (and short story). Again, I thought that this background fit in as perfectly as I've read in any book (and even though I've read all the books, the review helped me remember what happened in what order in the previous books).

Then we get to the stories in this book (and the set up for some super interesting stories for the next one as well). The main one in this novel is Eva and Zoe going back to Aiden for the opening of the memorial and new hospital on the grounds of the hospital in which Eva was kept. Along the way they get caught up in a couple of other stories too.

I loved that we got to see Father H again, and the entrance scene for him was definitely unique and awesome.

All family stuff hit the right tones again. And I always feel as though Zoe and Eva on the page can easily be a real life family and friend group.

Also, the historical part firmly put me in the right mindset for the time period in which it was set (sometimes, unfortunately, because, like the current time it wasn't a perfect time). These are women of their time who are both in their time and ahead of their time at the same time. But, they (thankfully don't read like 'current' modern women being written in another time, which I've read in other books.

Way back when I started reading these stories because they were called 'Uber Xena'. Now Zoe and Eva have become so, so, so much more than that. They come alive as themselves when I read these books. Awesome!

I think this short story about Zoe and Eva (and their friends) takes place around the time of the third book in the greater Eva/Zoe serieses, Hidden Truths.

Zoe is having a problem with her boss, Fletcher, at the place where she helps restore paintings. But, he's such a well-known artists in Austrailia and Zoe wants to keep her job.

But, Eva to the rescue, she has come up with a plan that has her becoming a Widgie (I was very glad for a definition of that before I started the book because I didn't really know what it meant) and put on quite the show for Fletcher's 'benefit' so that he'll stay away from Zoe.

It was a cool little story that had me both laughing and going 'awww...'. A very good combination.
