This historical fiction was entertaining but superficial. I felt as if the story was too busy ensuring that everything dovetailed perfectly to develop the characters sufficiently to be of interest. The lucid dreaming was tiresome but suitable for the times.

Enthralling, that's the right description for this book. A strange, but compelling mix of mystery, romance, history and sci-fi, it will keep you up all night, telling yourself: one more page, only one scene more, just this one chapter and I'll go to sleep...

Brilliantly writen, fast paced, with fully fledged characters and an intriguing plot, this is a truly recommended reading.

They Let Down Baskets is an insightful collaboration between a photographer (Jamie Lewis), a playwright (Bernie Stapleton) and a radio documentary producer (Chris Brookes). The work which consists of a portfolio sized book and a CD featuring a documentary by Chris Brookes, provides a remarkable insight into the post cod fishing moratorium Newfoundland and many failed and often insensitive policies aimed at providing livelihoods for some 30,000 people who found themselves without meaningful work. This is a wonderful addition to any library.
