Poutavý, originální a napínavý konspirační thriller. (Založil/a: Kůstka)… (más)

Not too many new characters can, or should be, compared to Jack Reacher. There are certain ways in which Colt Ryder could be compared, certainly in terms of raw courage, stubbornness, and undoubted ability, but not in the deep application of logic that Reacher applies. There is even a correlation between authors – Lee Child is British, so is J.T.Brannan who was brought up in Bradford and now lives in Harrogate, not far from my home town.
Ryder is The Thousand Dollar Man who accepts that amount of money for doing jobs for people, in this opening case a Mexican couple whose daughter disappeared over three years previously. Ryder accepts their task, involving crossing into Mexico from Laredo into Nueva Laredo just across the Rio Grande. There he comes into conflict with various gangs and their members, whose viciousness is well portrayed by the author.
I do not usually favour books written in the first person, as the implication is that they must have survived to write the story! However, having said that, I did enjoy most of the writing, apart from descriptions of repositioning a broken nose!
It has to be said that this is not a pleasant book, some of the violence being very graphic, but it is an easy read, made easier for me on a transatlantic flight when I could not sleep! It is a very worthy introduction to what could be an interesting character who does appear able to handle significant pain and come out on top. Beware, though, he may not discover what you might wish him to.
