A (fictional) humourous look at the priestly ministry in the 50's through the eyes of newly ordained Fr. Neil and for his first posting is sent to St. Jude's parish in London. There he meets the parish priest Fr. Duddleswell, a 'crafty & cantankerous' personality full of witticisms that cause me no end of chuckles. Together they minister to the mostly Irish congregation and along with their housekeeper Mrs. Pring (who is always at odds with Fr. Duddleswell to comic effect) paints a light hearted book. It is full of the British humour that I find so endearing, with 11 short stories in this first book and I was not surprised to find out that it was made into a television series (it certainly read like one).

Father Neil goes for his first curacy to Father Duddleswell, a bad-tempered but kind elderly priest. Humorous situations arise as Father Neil learns about his job and the people in the parish. Gentle fun poked at the traditions of the Catholic Church, and some of the people in it.

Another set of humorous short stories about the young Roman Catholic priest Father Neil. In this book he learns about women and life, in his curacy with Father Duddleswell. Light and somewhat amusing in places.

die menschliche seite von jesus wird erzaaehlt bevor er sls messias taetig wird. seine familienverhaeltnisse, nachbarn und freunde kommen zu wort. er trifft maria magdalena und seine zukuenftigen juengerunter menschlichen umstaenden. ein paar ereignisse sind von der bible genommen, aber das meiste ist einfach nur der mensch jesus. das fast letzte kapital beschreib jesus inder wueste und die versuchung durch den teufel. es wurde fast etwas philosophisch, was irgendwie nicht so in das buch passte. aber ansonsten eine fluessige erzaehlung.
