I feel like there is almost an entire genre of books about cats with delusions of grandeur. This is a funny, wonderfully illustrated addition to the gang. The illustrations belie Hamweenie's complaints that he is "tortured in unimaginable ways."

Lovely illustrations pull the reader into a tongue in check outlook of Hamweenie the cat who has a wonderful life, but alas, has delusions of grander happenings.

His owner takes wonderful care of him, providing tasty treats and birthday presents. Alas, he longs to be part of show business where he is the center of attraction...which is, as a matter of fact, right where he is.

I think this is a book for older children. The subtleties might not be understood by a younger child.

The Amazing Hamweenie imagines he's the star of the circus.

Simple book, with fantastic examples of unusual vocabulary words (for small children) such as:
grandeur
idolized
atrocious
futile
sabotage
Kids can most likely pick up on the sarcasm/big words as the illustrations are showing something entirely different than the text implies.
