SM Blooding

Detective Paige Whiskey is the only one in the family without any magic... or so she thinks. When called to assist in solving a series of occult murders she finds out she isn't as powerless as she thinks.
Together with the demon hunter Dexx and some (questionable) allies she will try to unravel the mysteries of the murders (hopefully) before she can be used to open the Gate of Hell.

my take on the book:
I liked it a lot! :D
The character development was very good, we had some insight in the thoughts and reasoning of both Paige and Dexx. You got a good feel for them and as such it was easy to picture yourself being there, solving the mystery and fighting baddies.
I feel that not everything has been said about her memory wipe and the blocking of her magic, but that might (hopefully) come in the next book.
The flow of the story was good. Some parts of the book (near the end) took a bit too long in my opinion, but did not 'pause' the book as it were, so I didn't rly mind. Some grammar errors here and there but again it didn't bother me.

As I really enjoyed this book, I'm putting the next few books on my TBR pile. Eager to find out what will happen with Paige and Dexx (and will they have some steamy sex?), what will they do now? Will Paige be able to overcome her issues? So many questions :D… (más)

Synn watches as Nix has his father burned to death. When it’s his turn, his rage causes his mark to come forth. Unfortunately, Nix now wants him as her pet because his mark is the most powerful they have ever seen. Nix is relentless and cruel; Synn gives in to be free of her not knowing the price he has just paid to the devil. Will he have the strength to break the bond? Will he be able to escape?

I was completely taken aback by this book. It drew me in from the very beginning with all of the action taking place. The descriptions were so vivid, that I felt I was visiting a secret place every time I opened the book. My favorite character would probably be Keeley, because she had the power to heal, I found that really cool. Synn becomes a strong main character enduring all, and fighting for his people. Nix, well Nix was evil to the core, she only knew what she wanted and took it. I was transfixed by this book from start to finish; this is one of those great sci-fi novels that you’ll want to read again and again!

I received a free copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in The Devices of War series. The story begins with Synn El'Asim still imprisoned by Queen Nix. He repeatedly resists the draw she has on him. Her sister, Dyna, decides to use Priestess Aiyanna to get information on the location of Ino City. Queen Nix releases Synn after she sends out a notice stating that as her Knight, Synn would be drafting a peace treaty. Will Synn receive complete freedom? Will Nix's evil deeds prevail? Will Aiyanna divulge where her loyalties lie?

S.M. Blooding has done it again! This novel drew me and it was so difficult to put down. The action and vivid descriptions were so amazing; it was like opening a book and entering a new world. You will fall in love with Synn's obvious growth I this book. I wish there was more focus on Keeley and the feelings Synn has for her. The end was pretty unexpected and really threw me. All in all, an awesome sequel! I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!

Whispers of the Skyborne is the third book in The Devices War trilogy. In this final portion, Synn has returned to save his people. Many questions are answered about the origin of the mark. But has Synn matured enough to take on Ino Nami and Sky City? His crew is inexperienced and must gain the courage to win the battle.


This was an awesome science fiction novel. I thought the explanation of how everyone's mark came to be was very creative and quite a surprise. There's non-stop action and you are easily drawn in and captivated by this intriguing story. This is a series that all lovers of sci-fi will enjoy.… (más)
