Never Too Old for a Pierhead Jump (A Harry Gilmour… por David Black
Recovered from his injuries, Harry is sent to take over a sub, the Saraband, that has serious internal troubles. Into the Pacific to fight a new and very different kind of undersea warfare. Harry's style eventually sorts out the crew as they are chosen as a tug for a minisub. The target is one of the remaining Japanese battleships; they are unsuccessful and Saraband must step in. Meanwhile, Bonny Boy meets an ignominious end with a blindfold and a firing squad. An excellent series comes to a successful conclusion.… (más)
Harry and the Scourge are still pottering around the Med doing all the dirty jobs for a small submarine. Captain Bonny Boy, his nemesis still is trying to kill him even if he has to sink his sub to do it. Lots of action on sea and land in obscure places in this very good WW2 sea series.
Harry succeeds in the "perisher" and is sent back to Malta where he continues to be successful. All is well until he is reassigned to 12th fleet commanded by his nemesis. The Bonny Boy. This series continues to stay interesting and worth pursuing.
Harry's lively life continues as he works his way up the ladder in the British Mediterranean Sub Fleet. Based on Malta during the worst of times, he sees enough action on land and undersea for several lifetimes. Malta was an essential component for Rommel's defeat in Africa which caused it to be subjected to almost continuous bombing during the early days of WW2. Good history and another good entry into this exciting and interesting series.
