What drew me to this novel initially was the interesting premise - a man wakes up on a strange world with no memory. He tries to survive & piece together the disaster that fell upon a nearby facility. I liked the story - through the use of flashbacks & interactions with others in the present, the mystery of what happened is slowly pieced together.

However, the writing itself was bad. There were numerous typos and instances of unclear phrasing that left me confused. What stood out most to me, though, were the abundance of run-on sentences - some going on for an entire paragraph. I wonder if some of them were intentional, meant to reflect a character's disordered mind. However, if this was intentional, it didn't work & just felt really exhausting to read through.

Another complaint is how the author presented one of the main characters. He isn't meant to be a good character, & the author shows us this by dumping onto the reader every nasty & demeaning thought he has about others (mainly women). I understand that he is supposed to be a terrible person, but I feel that including so, so many of his derogatory thoughts was unnecessary.

Overall, a good story hindered by bad execution.… (más)
