Those many well-intentioned persons who groove with the current fad for "Celtic Christianity" would do well to read this fascinating collection. Celtic Christianity did indeed have some unique beauties and insights, but when it came to the everyday cure of souls, those old Irish priests were -- or at-least were expected to be -- as fierce and irrational and life-denying as the sanctified hit-men of main-stream Christianity or any other religion.
