I love this book as it incorporates two of my greatest loves; food and James Bond movies.
Before I read Licence to Cook I had no idea that James Bond was a foodie. Ian Fleming, the author, made his character James Bond as sexy as hell. We all love the movies with fast cars, the exotic places, beautiful people and fantastic baddies. Now I have learned through reading Edward's book that James Bond has another layer and that also had the same enthusiasm for food. All food from the simplest scrambled eggs to indulgent Japanese rice served with sea bass.
Edward’s book starts off with a fact packed introduction and then leads you into well marked sections packed full of carefully chosen recipes and James Bond facts to accompany them.
Portions are for two people or one hungry man and are easily adjusted for James Bond themed party nights. Ingredients are readily available in the supermarkets.
Each recipe is accompanied by wonderful photographs taken by Clare McIntyre.
It’s strange to think at the time that Ian Fleming wrote the James Bond book that Britain was coming out of rationing and a lot of the foods we take for granted today would have been simply unavailable back then.
Edward talks about Fleming's love of food and how his job as a journalist would have given him the opportunity to experience new foods. These days you only have to turn on the TV and you are bombarded by the latest food show such as Man v. Food and other food channels from all over the world.
Food is sexy and still a luxury these days; why not stay in and cook up a treat with one of the many wonderful recipes from this book and create a meal to remember.
