The book "Sharks! Time For Kids" is a prime example of guided reading. It teaches students about the aspects about sharks. It gives us key vocabulary words that you would have to know when dealing with sharks. It gives us pictures of real live sharks to help readers visualize the text. It even has side bars about topics about sharks. I think that this text would be useful for advanced students from third to fifth grade or even sixth grade. The teacher may want to guide them through the text by making sure they comprehend important details from the book as many are factual especially for younger grade levels such as third and maybe fourth.… (más)

I loved this book. It will appeal to children of all ages. It includes colorful photographs of sharks in their natural habitat. It starts with a table of contents. Each chapter begins with the title prominently displayed in large, bold, colorful letters. Throughout the book there are insets of interesting photographs of sharks or people involved with sharks along with explanations included in the captions. The paragraphs are short and have short sentences that will not overwhelm an elementary student. In one section, there is a photo of a shark with arrows detailing the parts of its body and how those parts are used. Children will love reading about one shark in particular, the dwarf shark. It's only about 6 inches long and it glows in the dark. Many of the insets give details referring to the size of a feature of a shark, and the photographer gave pictures that used comparisons that give children a reference for comparison. It ends with a Did You Know section, and a section on how to Stay Safe! with Swimming Dos and Don'ts. Finally, it contains a glossary section titled simply, Words to Know. The great thing about the glossary is that it includes photos of the words that are being defined. Then there is the Fun Fact section, always a crowd pleaser. This book would appeal to first to fifth grade students. The younger students might explore it for the pictures, but the older students will love reading the facts. Teaching ideas include science lessons on fish, sharks, types of animals. It could be used as part of a career unit since it has a section about a shark scientist. I really loved this book.… (más)

This book is informative and all about sharks. I liked this book because it is not dry compared to many nonfiction books. There are photographs taking up each page and words such as "CHOMP" and "Open Wide!" to give the readers excitement while reading about sharks. The book is also divided up into 4 Chapters, making it easy to navigate through specific topics pertaining to sharks. There is also a "List of Words to Know" on the back page with vocabulary words and definitions with pictures about sharks".

This book would be great to read in a science class or could be offered in a classroom library. It is fun to read yet informative. The editors of TIME for Kids edited this book so it is full of useful information and great for readers on the 3rd grade reading level.

Great early reader book about all types of sharks and info about their habits. I liked that it used comparisons to show size and such so kids can visualize it better.
