I met this author at a summer festival last year. After chatting with him for quite a while I was curious to read one of his books. I choose Sarah's Journey because the story's setting is in a part of Canada I am very familiar with present day and I thought it would be interesting to read what it was like in the 1800's without having to read an actual history book (which I find boring). The book is historical fiction, about slavery and freedom in Upper Canada based on actual places, people and events. The author made history come alive for me through Sarah Lewis' (a real person) and her children's lives. It has adventure, romance, and mystery, combined with the history. It kept me engrossed from cover to cover as I wanted to know what happened next. I fell in love with Sarah, she was such an amazing woman! Never has history stimulated me in this way. Not only did I learn a lot, I enjoyed every minute of it. I highly recommend this book, it is awesome!… (más)

Clumsy who-done-it set in the New York Public Library and concerning the theft of rare stamps. I was put off by the behavior of the narrator, who seems to be channeling James Bond or Phillip Marlowe, and I found the plot difficult to follow.
