Denzil Batchelor (1903–1969)

I bought this book thinking it would be non-fiction essays or biographies on cricket and cricketers. Sadly, it is not as "Best Cricket Stories" includes fictional pieces related to cricket Some of these fictional works are by luminaries of the game, including cricketers such as C.B. Fry. Fry demonstrates that while he was a whizz on the cricket field and almost became King of Albania, writing was not his strong suit.

There are many non-fiction pieces, some of which were quite educational, including an article by the great C.L.R. James on his childhood hero Wilton St. Hill. These articles make up somewhat for the fiction pieces and as I bought this for $3.00 (at Australia's best secondhand book sale; Lifeline's in Canberra. They are on twice a year and I highly recommend you attend), it met my exacting standards of being interesting enough to keep me from getting too bored on the bus to work.… (más)
