Christiaan Barnard (1922–2001)

In 1967, Christiaan Barnard, M.D., the world's most beloved heart surgeon, became a pioneer of modern surgery when he performed the world's first heart transplant operation -- it took 5 hours and was a success, thus ensuring his place as the most famous doctor of our time.
