James Barber had a charming cooking show on TV. The recipes are decent, though nothing special. It was his style as a host that made the show attractive.

elightful cookbook of simple, flexible recipes--and "how to do it" for each recipe is illustrated on the facing page by the author's cartoons. James Barber is famous in Canada for his easy, inventive style of cooking. This book contains the well-known recipe for eight-hour chicken and another about how to make a turkey taste like a 20-pound pheasant.

In this 1971 version, the pages are rust, hunter green, or burnt orange in sections. It's part of my permanent collection. Mine is ISBN 0888941692. It was originally published by Douglas & McIntyre, Vancouver, B.C. and now back in print from Raincoast Books.
