Very depressing novel. Rated 3 stars because it was very well written, the characters and story clearly depicted. However the subject matter was more horror/thriller than anything. Lots of torture, including self mutilation. Lots of gore. History and folklore not much magic. Really struggled to finish as it was so depressing.
This was free from the author and publisher in hopes of a review. Thank you.

Because of the theme of the story, this book must have been very difficult to write and James does a marvelous job. Figure what happens when Slytherin graduates join the criminal underworld Goodfellas style.

I enjoyed this book very much and plan to read the sequels sometime.
