The record set up at the mausoleum of the first Emperor. Robert graves refers to this type of record as boring, and stilted, and then moves on with the novel called "I, Claudius" as to his mind, a more saleable account of the life of another emperor. The Res Gestae in this edition is a useful teaching tool for an introductory university course in Roman History. It is a useful, but not spritely account.
