This collection is complied by authors I have recently come to know as friends. Having moved to the Appalachian mountains last summer and started working in Ashe County, I know first-hand how beautiful this place is. I loved reading about Janet Pittard's walks with her dog Bear and the wildflowers. And I agree with Scot Pope that this place definitely has the essence of "time out of mind" and leaves one with a peaceful, easy feeling. I too feel Chris Arvidson's connection to the town and the sense of coming "home." My heart is here in the mountains ... the highlands. I wish I had lived here all my life and now think of my earlier years as wandering around in search of Utopia ... which I certainly have found here in this little piece of "heaven on earth." The historic stories of the county and people who lived here through the years are testimony to the love of life and land. Local readers will feel a strengthening of ties that bind them to this place. Others who read these memoirs can travel through pages of the book and may be inspired to visit themselves. I do believe that once you find Ashe County, you will want to stay!… (más)
