5 stars because this is THE book that taught me that I could learn to do anything if I could find the right book. Oh for the internet in the 1950's. This book, only recently acquired, was the book that fueled my desire to own books. It's the book that started me sewing and making things at about age 9. I checked it out of the library so many times it might as well have been mine. I thought about stealing. I finally copied out every pattern by hand ( pre-copier era) and wrote down the instructions by hand. My first dolls were hideous (I still have a couple) but so beautiful to me. I actually had a nice little business selling dolls by the time I was 11 or 12 so I must have gotten better. The book still gives me a thrill every time I open it. I'm pulling it out and leaving it on the coffee table for my granddaughter to find.… (más)
