The Richard Adams' text includes quotes from poems, and a conversational approach which encourages exploration of nature. There is also a more scientific explanations and spot illustrations for many species and ecological concepts, e.g. plant life changes with altitude & latitude, animal shelters, pollination, animal dispersion, animal camoflage and temperature control.
My favorite part is the 2-page spreads of artwork with clears colors outlined in black. While it is not detailed enough for plant ID, there is a numbered key to each illustration identifying the birds, insects, animals and plants.
