Perfect for the 5-10 crowd Extraordinary Ernie and Marvelous Maud will appeal to kids who love superheroes or graphic novels. The Middle Sheep, the second book in this series deals very carefully (no hitting you over the head moments of clarity) with sibling rivalry and the importance of both speaking truth and listening carefully. This was a cute book for both young and grown-up readers. My daughter and I read it together and enjoyed it very much. She liked the idea of sheep and other animals being superheroes; I liked the concept of friends fighting with each other, then forgiving each other, and moving on to work together. I will look for other books by this author! ( )

This book has a different writing style and it is fresh for young readers. It is the second book in the Ernie and Maud (AKA Extraordinary Ernie the boy and Marvelous Maud the sheep) series by Frances Watts. These books were originally publushed in Australia, and I'm really glad they are being made available in the USA. It is good, clean, and wholsome fun that you will enjoy reading or reading with your kids. I am planning on reading the series aloud to my children as soon as we can find them.

Just so you know, I received this book as a part of the Library Thing Early Reviewers giveaway, and I thank them for that! ( )

I read this book to my six year-old daughter this morning and asked her what she thought. She replied "it's one of the best books in the world ever!!!" High praise indeed! The book was equally enjoyed by her 4 year-old brother who thought that the idea of a superhero sidekick having their own sidekick was hilarious (he's still laughing about that one nearly an hour later!) Both screamed with laughter when Maud rode on a skateboard attached to the back of Ernie's bike and both were clambering all over me trying to see the pictures as we read about each of Maud's potential new sidekicks. Even I had to laugh at the goldfish candidate! Our rating? Six thumbs way up! Must go. I'm off to find out whether we can get hold of a copy of book one in the series, Extraordinary Ernie and Marvelous Maud, on Amazon. ( )

As an adult reading this book, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I love the idea of everyday kids becoming super heros, something many young kids dream about. The book uses a variety of vocabulary that will help children expand theirs! It is a humorous story of friendship and humility. ( )
