Really enjoyed this angsty historical. And it was really angsty. Well written and moving. Great characterization. Not a lot of historical details, but since it was mostly the story of relationships it worked well without those details. There were a few word choices that irked me but not enough to drop my rating. ( )

An amazingly touching story, it is definitely a two hankie read. Widower Terminally ill, Charles Lawson saves Maddie from becoming a prostitute by marrying her to be a mother to his children. But that is just the beginning of the gifts of hope and love Charles gives to his family. ( )
