Australian backpacker meets scion of English country gentry: whirlwind marriage, derelict stately home, mad granny, sinister servants, ghastly huntin' shootin' fishin' locals … all of which still turn out to be an improvement on HER family. Mel-o-drama, and then some, with an inevitable and heavily signposted dramatic climax, none of which detracted even minutely from my enjoyment. Loved it. Fail sadly at being an interleckcheral. Don't care. ( ) I loved, loved, loved this book. It kept me hooked all the way through. I thought it quite an unusual story line and revolves around an eccentric family trying to hang on to their status as the old aristocracy, contrasted with a family from Australia with more than a few secrets.
