A companion volume to the popular book Exploring with Custer, the all-new Crossing the Plains with Custer tells the rest of the story of this historic Expedition. In 1874, Gen. Custer was sent to explore the mysterious Black Hills, an area largely unknown to whites at that time. Custer led a force of 1000 men, including a photographer, and several newspaper reporters and others who kept diaries and journals. These first-hand accounts are woven with beautiful landscape photographs to illuminate Custer's 665-mile plains trail, from Fort Lincoln to the Black Hills and back again. GPS coordinates mark many public crossings of the route, while a two-page map reveals the trail in todays world. A special section features dozens of artifacts from several private and public collections, and a long-lost roster lists the name of every person who accompanied Custer on this Expedition. More than 400 photographs, maps, and illustrations in a full-color 336-page book. Sample pages are available at www.dakotaphoto.com. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
