On January 2, 1678, a fleet of French ships sank off the Venezuelan coast. This proved disastrous for French naval power in the region, and sparked the rise of a golden age of piracy. Barry Clifford likes to scuba dive and this exploration of a group of wrecks dating from late buccaneer history 1670's to 1690, is his way of making some money from the situation. I did not find the narrative captivating, but it is useful as a snap shot of the techniques at the turn of the millennium. ( )
