"Ireland - The Rock Whence I Was Hewn" constitutes a marvellous example of Byrne s extraordinary power of bringing out the poetry and the pathos of everybody and everything - all firmly rooted in the land of his fathers. Donn Byrne (1889 - 1928) was an Irish novelist. Byrne s novels about Ireland were extremely popular in America, with Byrne becoming one of the best sellers of his time. The chapters of this book include: Ireland s Place Names Have Colour and Charm, Irish Bulls Often Reflect Efforts at Subtle Nuances of Speech, Intricacies of Gaelic Poetry, Black Despair Wails from Irish People, The Worst Haunted House in the British Isles, etcetera. Many vintage texts such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now, in an affordable, high-quality, modern edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned biography of the author." No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |

The one downside of this book is that it partially assumes that the reader knows exactly what and where it's talking about. At some point your eyes start to just see the words instead of actually reading them.
Overall, perfectly delightful. ( )
