Mr, Dimsdale was on the staff of the Governor of Montana, and could research this journalistic account of the bad old days in Virginia, Montana, and the eventual clean-up of the town and environs. This is a useful book to study in search of the better part of the American character in its better moments. I read the 1964 University of Oklahoma reprint. ( )
