This book is about the time when the West was wild and its borders undefined, a 13-day fight between U.S. and Mexican forces was about to end. Just before dawn on March 6, 1836, 1,400 Mexican soldiers under General Santa Anna stormed the Alamo, a small garrison in San Antonio, Texas. With a force of fewer than 200 men, including the likes of the legendary Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, the fighters inside the Alamo refused to surrender. The battle quickly escalated into vicious hand-to-hand combat as the defenders of the Alamo fought to the end in one of the most significant battles ever fought on what today is U.S. soil. The Alamo examines the events that led up to the terrible slaughter and tells how the siege has come to symbolize the American spirit of determination in the face of overwhelming odds with the rallying battle cry, "Remember the Alamo!" This is a very informative book, but it’s a book that allows the readers to learn while reading a good story.
