Making assumptions about what someone else wants is dangerous, and acting on those assumptions, without ever checking if they are true, is just plain stupid. Logan, an extremely dominant man who thinks he knows best what is good for Joey, is an excellent example of what not to do when meeting the love of your life and fearing your preferences in the bedroom might be too much for him. Yes, Joey is innocent and a bit naïve, but he is a grown man and what Logan does, well-meaning though it may be, deeply hurts him. The story of the two of them finally figuring it all out is touching, sweet, and had me frowning and smiling in turn. Oh, and it gets quite hot and kinky as well, just in case you were wondering. The whole story of how Joey learns what happens when he calls Logan “sir” is hilarious!

Logan is self-confident, knows what he wants in a partner, and not afraid to ask for what he wants. Or so he thinks until Joey walks into his club and totally floors him. Logan is determined not to be selfish and overwhelm the younger man with his kinky desires, and decides to wait. Get to know him better. A year later, he is still waiting for the perfect moment. While it shows how much he cares, it’s also proof that he is so taken by Joey that he gets more and more afraid the man will turn him down. What the heck? His hesitance is kind of cute initially, but a whole year? While scaring everyone else off so Joey remains single? Man, just get your act together! I wanted to kick him for being so hesitant and ending up hurting Joey more than honesty ever could.

Joey is lonely after being kicked out by his family for being gay, desperate to find a man he can love, and more than mystified why nobody in the club he goes to on a regular basis will do more than talk to him. When he finally goes to a different place and the same thing happens there, he is ready to throw in the towel. The angst alone almost did me in! But his visit to the new club, owned by a good friend of Logan, at least spurs Logan into action and gets Joey what he wants: Logan’s undivided attention. As he discovers exactly why Logan was so hesitant, and explores what he thinks is a pretty hot way of looking at life, he only falls more deeply for Logan every time they get together.

Things aren’t easy for these two until Logan learns to communicate, and Joey dares to speak up. If you like hesitant first-timers encountering the hot world of BDSM, if you prefer to stay on the loving D/s side of things where a butt plug and the occasional spanking are all the men need to make them feel good, and if you’re looking for a hot read with lots of sweet romance, then you will probably like this novella. There are various levels of BDSM 'intensity' in romance stories, and I would say that Call Me Sir is a medium low level. For Logan and Joey, the two men of this story, being in a D/s relationship means that Joey is allowed to transgress when he wants to spicy their relationship and Logan will fake to punish him, when for real, he is doing exactly what Joey's implicitly asked.

The story starts in an unusual way, Joey is frequenting Logan's nightclub, and he is doing that since a year, but he has never got 'lucky'. Joey is young, cute, kind, but people seem to avoid him like he had a plague. Joey doesn't know that Logan put a claim on him and no one is allowed to go near the boy. This is actually quite a complicated plan in Logan's mind: he doesn't want to stake his claim on Joey since he thinks the boy is too young to be involved in a D/s relationship, he wants to give time to him to ponder his alternatives, but then he prevents Joey to meet possible partners. How on earth Joey should be able to willingly choose Logan if he has no other chance on the balance? Let alone the little detail that Logan didn't warned Joey that he was 'claimed' and so the little guy is wondering where he is wrong since no one wants to 'go home' with him.

If not for the fact that, in the end, Joey appears to me like he really needs to be take care of, I probably wouldn't like so much Logan's behaviour. I think Logan is a good man, but probably he should learn something on relationship and self-esteem (of other people, he really risked to ruin Joey with his 'being aloof' play). But as I said, in the end Joey prefers to be the 'kept man', he has no ambition to be independent, he is really happy to be the 'little wife' who takes care of his man.

On the D/s aspect of their relationship, as I said, it's pretty mild, really more a game between them than a real lifestyle. Enough to say that Joey is not into pain, something that it would be at the exact opposite in a real BDSM relationship. More or less, Logan is an old fashioned man, like those 40/50s husbands who went out work to provide a good lifestyle to their family; they were the master of the family and the wife was both the mainstay of the house and a pretty ornament on the husband's arm. Here the situation is more or less the same, only that Logan is g ay and so the 'wife' has an attribute more ;-)
