Now journalist Ben Joravsky vividly brings to light all the richness and subtlety of their stories, and the impact their aspirations had on themselves, their families and their relationships. Two teenage African American boys from public housing are given basketball scholarships to a prestigious prep school where they dream of earning college scholarships and hopefully moving on to the pros. Not surprisingly, there are a number of pitfalls along the way. The book extends beyond the original documentary film Hoop Dreams which was critically acclaimed. ( )
