Barnum with many details about America and the world during his lifetime. Laid out nicely, lots of great photos. Good for Grades 5 and up. Curricular connections: Social Studies or English discussion--what are modern views of animal captivity and human "curiosities" vs. the contemporary attitudes described in the book? Wow, P.T. Barnum was a money-grubbing publicity hound! That's how it comes off initially and his lack of involvement with his wife and daughters doesn't help. But in essence, this is a readable and wildly interesting biography about a man who knew how to strike when the iron was just hot and had his finger on the pulse of what would entertain Americans. Some of the interesting bits include the "freaks" he found for his museum and his life outside the American Museum and the circus. Now I know more about the "Barnum" in Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

I liked this book because, it shows that with such little ,money you can have a big dream. Although it took a lot to get where was. To presenting a 161 year old woman to making a empire from there. Barnum had a big dream. It proves to me you can come from a big town but, you can have a creative dream. Although with some reasons he wanted to do it is because, he wanted it for the money. But he made people smile. When he had his Museum burned down that did not stop him from reaching his priority. He had to go through so many struggles but he didnt let that get get in the way of his dreams. ( )
