There were a few times when I laughed out loud while reading. The librarian, Virginia Creeper, starts off the library trip by reading the “Incredible Storybook”. As she reads the characters begin to fly out of the book. Frankenstein, the Wicked Witch, and Captain Hook are some the characters that are flying out of the book. At first the children were afraid, but after cookies and cider, they all start to party together. The writing is very engaging and detailed. The author seems to find the right words to describe perfectly what is happening. “Then, with a thunder of hooves, the Headless Horseman leaped out of the book!” I also like the illustrations. The illustrations do a great job of drawing the reader into the story. The illustrations are detailed and colorful. The author does a great job of using the illustrations to show the characters’ emotions. For example, there is a part where the children are frightened, and it is shown clearly on their faces. One child is covering his eyes, and a two of them look like they are about to cry. The author even included a page about where to find the scary creatures. The page shows the creatures from the story, and what stories to read to learn more about them. The big idea of this story is to entertain children with a fun Halloween story. Eh, not my favorite children's library story...but not too bad. I liked how the book characters became less scary when they came out of the storybook as "ghosts," but I was unsettled by the assumption portayed in the story that the approaching senior citizen book clubbers would be unsettled by the book character "ghosts."
"A fun filled literary adventure." Pertenece a las seriesMiss Smith (3)
