Suspense

Should you doubt what your gut is telling you? Are your suspicions real? But how can you second guess yourself when so much is at stake? If you have lived in the limbo of uncertainty, between conviction and lack of evidence, you will identify with the feelings of Sister Aloysius (Meryl Streep). On the other hand, if you know the pain of being accused falsely of something, you may identify with Father Flynn (Philip Seymour Hoffman). There will be consequences if Sister Aloysius is wrong. But how destructive are the consequences if she is right and she fails to be proactive? Whatever she does, she must act in consideration of the obedience she has vowed to men who may be corrupt. From beginning to end, the suspense of this story is captivating and drives home the importance of self-examination, investigation of the facts, and proactive decision-making. The movie can serve as a good springboard for discussing interpretation and various perspectives. ( )

Good. I avoided watching this movie for so long because I thought it was going to be just a well-acted movie about abuse. That is not at all what it's about. It is really heavy, though. ( )
