I enjoyed the mystery and genuinely was surprised on how it turned out. I enjoyed the antics of the ladies of Fortune’s Folly while they gave Sir Montague Fortune a run for his money (literally) and a taste of his own ridiculous medicine. I even enjoyed the interaction between Dexter and Laura, until the truth was out.

In the end, while I cannot read this novel again, I look forward to the next books in the series (The Brides of Fortune) and watching Laura’s rakehell cousin Miles get a runaround from his lady love. ( )

I struggled with this book. To be fair, it might have been the (bad) translation. However, I soon lost interest in the characters and the story. There also seem to be some loose ends. I'll try the next book in the series though.
PS After reading all book in this series, I'm glad I borrowed them, I won't be buying them. It has been a while but I can remember better books by NC. ( )

I just started this book but think it may be a good one!!

I got up to page 194 and I couldn't do it anymore. I don’t know why the premise of this sounded appealing to me. I thought maybe it would be humorous, but the book took itself a bit too seriously. The dialogue was pretty cliché. The characters were not likeable at all. They kept lusting after each other so much that I was screaming in my head to “f*ck already and get it over with!!” I don’t know if the author was trying to build sexual tension for the grand finale, but I just found it annoying. There were some plot twists or so it seemed…I can’t really say since it wasn’t enough to keep my interest to continue on with the story. ( )

I have other books by this author. This is the first in a
trilogy. I like this character; she is a woman with a past
and trying to make a life for herself and her daughter. This
is one of my summer reads ( )
