The book has very complex pictures with bright colors. The vocabulary introduced is rich and unusual. The end of the book provides interesting information about ravens. ( )

Written in rhyme, this quick-paced tale has a whimsical tone. Told in the narrative view. The theme is in spite of troubles, everything works out in the end. The last seven pages contain humorous true raven stories. Illustrations are bold linoleum block prints.

Activities: Tell the children something about ravens that you have experienced (for instance, one making meowing sounds like a cat). Ask children if they have any raven stories they would like to tell. ( )

Personal Response:
A fun, amusing way to learn how to count backwards from 10. Each mischievous adventure results in one less raven. The illustrations portray the cultural diversity of the Pacific Northwest. A fun way to include cultural diversity in a subtle way.

This was a cute story about mischievous and cunning ravens wreaking havoc. The illustrations in this book were a tad overwhelming at times with a little too much going on. Still might be a good counting book for young children.
