A large-format book on the man-eating tigers of the Sunderbans, the extensive mangroves of the Bengal and bangladesh portions of the Ganges delta region in northeast Bay of Bengal. Full of stunning and original photographs of the land (mostly water and mangroves), and the people, the book, although pitched to a child's level, still faces up squarely to the heart-rending human costs of conserving this last refuge of the what was known as the Royal Bengal Tiger. One looks forward to reading the author's more detailed, and adult, account of thge same subject. ( ) This Scientists In The Field-type book puts the reader into the boots of a scientist. Several questions are raised about the mysterious and unusual tigers that have no clear answers. The reader is challenged to speculate what it must be like for a scientist who would like to investigate these tigers. Easy to read maps help the reader better understand the tigers' shrinking range and numbers. Beautiful photographs are interspersed with the text as we meet native people who live and work near the tigers' territory. The culture of the native people and their paradoxical admiration and fear of the tigers is explained in their own words. The author also speaks directly to the reader throughout this very engaging book. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
