Truly enjoyed the humorous banter among the guests and staff, the tasks from a myth that they each had to do and the way both struggled to complete them, the use of the servants as true friends. Did not like Caitlyn falling for such an older man even if he was the handsome laird Alexander although the author tried hard to make him act younger. It made Caitlyn more a love sick maiden and she was much stronger than that. The storms were in the story but did not affect the scenes other than noticing the weather changing. Old Woman Nora, Mam, was only in part of the story but was helpful. Was hoping for much more of an exciting ending about the curse including more involving the brothers although the epilogue summed up an answer. ( )

I was a bit disappointed by this book. I wanted to like it a lot because in general the writing and the setting were really well done. However, I feel that the main heroine and "hero" (and I say that loosely because he does some pretty rotten things) are so focused on getting revenge or avenging a wrong done for an event that doesn't even take place in this book. I really just don't sympathize with the characters obsession over the aforementioned "event" because I (as the reader) never saw what happened and from the brief descriptions in the book don't find it that horrific. Additionally, the Duchess is a little lackluster to me, I understand that she is supposed to provide the tension for the "hero's" to overcome....but it is not that believable to me that her whole motivation for housing someone she doesn't like is to have a live in boy toy. This book had so much potential but, for me, it fell short. ( )

The Laird Who Loved Me, by Karen Hawkins, was originally published in 2009. I found it one day while browsing around my favorite bookshop. I loved the cover, good looking man, and stopped to read the description. I bought my first Karen Hawkins book that day. The main characters are delightful and spark off each other nicely. The test/quest is an interesting plot maneuver, it added a sense of adventure and excitement to the story. The curse is interesting but the test is better. I rarely give 5 stars to any book, it's hard to be that good. The Laird Who Loved me gets 5 from me & made me a Karen Hawkins fan. I bought the other books in the series.

I did enjoy the book but found Alexander a bit to... bitter or angry.. not sure how I felt but he was to "uncertain" for me.. plotting her ruin but then not at the same time... I liked the tasks they were interesting and Caitlyn was a bold/risky heroine. Not my favourite of the series. ( )

3.9 stars It is what it is, romance, with a predictable story, hunky man and a beautiful girl meet, things go wrong, they hate each other yadyadayada... they end up ? but there is a twist the Alpha has a curse, he causes storms when he gets mad. Which being an Alpha and dealing with a women who does not "the rules" he does often. He is hard headed and she is even more so, making for some seriously funny parts throughout the story. At the beginning of each chapter there is a wonderful quote from an old women. I loved these and wrote many down for reference.
This appears to be the last book in this series and the only one I have read. I am not a romance reader for the most part but I would read more from this author. ( )
