I didn't enjoy the sequel quite as much as the original Spud, but I still really liked it. With Gecko gone, Spud isn't quite sure how he fits in with the Crazy Eight any more. None of them really seem to understand him - his love of literature and acting, involvement in politics, his choirboy voice which begins to crack, or his inability to get anywhere with the two beauties who fawn over him.

It's a tough year for John "Spud" Milton, including a trip abroad, suspension and a breakup. But the actions of people all around him are so crazy, that it is all still quite funny. However, he is missing that one person he can confide in.

I see that there is a 3rd book and I hope it will be published in the US soon. They are also filming a Spud movie (with John Cleese as The Guv)...I hope it, too, is released in the US (at least on DVD).

Spud has a great appeal - he is the most sane person in the middle of lots of crazy people both at school and at home. His diaries are fun to read and not just for teenage boys! Can't wait to see what happens next. ( )

I loved the first book, and this one disappointed me. The humor was still there, but this time Spud was already part of a group and had a pretty well established identity, and it didn't work without Spud starting as an outsider and working his way in. Also, there was no central story arc - it really did just feel like reading a goofy South African kid's diary. Also, what happened to the awesome cover art? The first Spud book has such a good cover! This cover is so boring and has terrible typography! What gives? ( )

There is alot of funny jokes, funny pranks, and some not so funny punishments, but when it comes down to it. They're still the seven crazy boys(plus a cat) that will not retire there funny crowns just yet. In this book told from John Milton's (a.k.a Spud's) point of view, we grow to love the crazy eight even more than before and with the new adventures and trouble. I hope there is a third book and if there is, I'm getting it. ( )
