A heartbreaking and bittersweet conclusion to the Kohane arc. Lots of Watanuki/Domeki moments to keep fans of that ship happy as well. I think this volume takes places near the end of Tsubasa's run? Things are moving rather fast when it comes to Sakura and Syaoran's involvement with Yuuko and Watanuki. I imagine volume fourteen will have to address our non-megane Watanuki as well as the fate of the shop itself. Looking forward to it! ( )

The storyline with Kohane-chan (the young medium with an abusive mother) comes to a dramatic finish in this volume. During an episode of a psychic medium show Kohane-chan reveals that her mother told her to lie if it would maintain her reputation after she gets in trouble for making a controversial statement about the man whom she and the other medium are tasked to find. The show's directors turn on her mother and acuse her of child abuse, which only serves to fuel her anger and causes her to lash out at Kohane-chan again. Thankfully, Watanuki and Domeki are there to save the day, and they take Kohane-chan back to Yuko's magic shop. At this point we get another glimpse of larger storyline as Yuko takes part of Kohane-chan's powers and reveals that the boundaries between space and time are crumbling. ( )

In volume 14 the story takes on the over-arching idea of who and what Watanuki is, the price he has paid in the past without realizing it and how he, Li and Sakura are all tied together. My Thoughts: I almost cried at the Kohane-chan story. Seeing a young girl attacked by her own mother because the mother hates her ex-husband is just sad. Thankfully, with her wish to be happy and her giving up her powers, which turn out to be based on one of Sakura's feathers, Kohane can start to have a normal childhood. Surrounded by friends, she can learn what love really is. Volume 14 was a little more esoteric and non-plot centric. Lots of little conversations between various people that advance what is happening to Watanuki and Sakura and Co over at Tsubasa. And we are getting little hints that not everything will be ok with Yuko. She has not been so rambunctious and we keep seeing bits of melancholia in her expressions. " ( )

Watanuki is more here in this volume than the last but he is still dealing with whatever price he paid to Yuko. Kohane-chan's story has a happy ending. She is going to learn to be happy herself and through her mother is going to be too. Watanuki is still fighting with Domeki but he is relying on him to help. It is making Domeki very nervous because he knows that he does not know everything that is going on with Watanuki. As always the art is just top notch. Only a few more volumes then done with manga series.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. ( )

Volume 13 of xxxHolic by CLAMP finishes up the Kohane-chan arc with startling revelations. Although Watanuki is still struggling with staying awake or even knowing for sure what is real and what is not, he knows he has to help Kohane-chan, the young psychic.

Kohane-chan has one last chance to prove herself to the public and the other so-called psychics. Her mother's abuse has become dangerous and Kohane-chan to save her life has to lie about what she can or cannot see at the next live television event.

Watanuki, though, knows that she won't lie. He has to offer her a way to escape. There's just one huge problem... and what that problem is, floored me. I think it floored me even more than the resolution and crossover with Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles ( )
