I really like the first person narration since it gives the reader a better sense of Libby's emotional state and shows how her perspective on family and friends changes over the course of her voyage. It's a great book about adventure and would appeal to many middle school students. ( ) It's hard to enjoy a story when you despise the protagonist; Libby was such a brat, I wished she would be killed by the pirates. When her long suffering stepfather dies as a result of her adolescent pique, I wanted to vomit. Talk about teen wish fulfillment! Unfortunately, Libby's battle for survival did nothing to make me respect , let alone like her character anymore. The ending was predictable and the characters two-dimensional; a disappointing effort for a story that could have been really gripping. Libby, 14 years old, is a typical, rebellious teen who does not hide her anger when she is about to depart on a year long adventure onto the high seas with her mother and stepfather. Being defiant, she arrives late back to the boat and the other travelers leave without Libby and her family. When the ravage of pirates become a reality and Libby's loyalty is tested she finds the strength and courage to take on daunting obstacles while isolated sea. Red sea would be useful in the classroom to teach students characterization. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Fourteen-year-old Libby didn't want to go on a year long sailing adventure with her mother and her stepfather, Duncan, and she isn't about to let them forget it. Traveling through the Red Sea, Libby causes them to be late and make a dangerous crossing alone. When modern-day pirates attack, Duncan is killed and Libby's mother is left seriously injured and unconscious. Libby is left alone on a crippled boat to find safety and help for her mother. Libby must call on all her strength and face some hard truths about herself if she is to survive and reach land. A thrilling tale of one girl's struggle for survival against the elements and her inner demons, Red Sea is adventure writing at its best. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
