"Bad" is a young adult novel that tells the story of a girl, Dallas, who is constantly getting into trouble. She also has a very strained relationship with her only parental figure: her father. After getting arrested for armed robbery of a convenience store, the judge offers her father the opportunity to give Dallas a break and to allow her to come back home. He declines and Dallas is sent to juvie. The story follows her through juvie and through the relationships she creates there as well as her development of the love of reading. Ferris also deals with the relationship between Dallas and her father. Overall, this book was great. I enjoyed it quite a bit. However, the ending was not exactly what I had hoped for. This was a re-read from junior high, and I remember high-school-me loving the ending, but adult-me was not as fond. It is so interesting to see how your reactions to a book can change over time. ( )
