In this follow up to their earlier Santa's Snow Cat, author Sue Stainton and illustrator Anne Mortimer tell the tale of one of Snow Cat's young offspring: Snow Kitten. With wintry white fur and beautiful green eyes, just like his mother, Snow Kitten enjoys his safe, warm life in Santa's cozy home. But when Santa's wardrobe, in which Snow Kitten and his two brothers, Shadow and Night, like to snuggle, is empty one day, the intrepid young feline sets out to discover what has happened, exploring Santa's home, and eventually (much like his mother) stowing away on Santa's sleigh, and experiencing the magic of a Christmas Eve journey around the world.

The artwork here, as could be expected of any Anne Mortimer title, is simply adorable, and the cat-lover in me wanted to reach right into the scenes being depicted, and cuddle those adorable felines! Snow Kitten's exploration of Santa's home makes for an engaging tale, not least because it provides the reader with a tour of that fascinating residence. I wouldn't say that this was the most brilliant of holiday titles, but it does create a feeling of holiday warmth and contentment. Recommended to anyone who enjoyed Santa's Snow Cat, to young readers who love cats and/or Santa stories, and to fans of Anne Mortimer's art. ( )
