This is the story of an ordinary Dutch man who went undercover for God. He smuggled Bibles into the most closed and dangerous countries of the world, risking his life over and over again. His life of faith and surrender is such a testimony and inspiration.

This is a stunningly inspirational look at how God can change one person's life and redeem them from higher purposes. There are no punches pulled in this book, from Brother Andrew's backstory to the current ministry of Open Doors, and it is wonderful. The first half is a refreshing look at how not even Christians are perfect and how broken lives can be repurposed. The second half, with the Bible smuggling, is a mix of adventure and real emotion. This is a beautiful book that I would encourage every Christian to read at least once. ( )

The harrowing account of a young man who risked his life to smuggle Bibles through the borders of closed nations.
Working undercover for God, a mission that continues to this day, has made Brother Andrew one of the all-time heroes of the faith. His narrow escapes from danger to share the love of Jesus will encourage and embolden believers in their own walks of faith.

Andrew was a child in Holland during World War II and the German occupation. After the war, he joins the military and fights in Indonesia until he was injured. He returns a bitter, crippled man. God soften Andrew’s heart then works great miracles for Andrew. Eventually, Andrew becomes a Bible smuggler to oppressed Christians throughout the world. ( )

Few biographies rival this one in their simple devotion to the word of God and prayer. Br. Andrew is a man willing to step out for God, and any of his books will challenge you to do the same. May there be more like him. ( )

Tension builds page by page in this remarkable true document...more thrilling than a spy story with its numerous near escapes and mounting climaxes of danger.

[Prologue] The slender, thirty-something fellow was sitting in our living room as we peppered him with questions for the book we were writing, when our eight-year-old daughter, Liz, burst through the front door from the school bus.
From the time I first put on wooden shoes--klompen we call them in Holland--I dreamed of derring-do.
[Epilogue] It is May 2001, and Brother Andres is once again sitting in our living room in Chappaqua, New York.
